Why Chaska Homeowners Choose Spray Foam
Minnesota winters demand insulation that actually performs
Stop Winter
Drafts
Spray foam expands to fill every crack and gap, an airtight seal fiberglass batts cannot match. No more cold spots or uneven heating in your Chaska home.
Lower Energy
Bills
ENERGY STAR estimates about 15% savings on heating and cooling from air sealing plus insulation. Many Chaska projects also qualify for utility rebates.
Increase Home Value
Buyers notice a home that stays comfortable year-round. Insulation pays you back twice: lower bills while you live there, stronger appeal when you sell.
Reduce Exterior Noise
Open-cell spray foam is an exceptional sound absorber. It fills the wall cavity completely, so rooms near busy roads, flight paths, and neighbors feel noticeably quieter.
Help Stop Ice Dams
Ice dams start when heat leaks into the attic and melts the snow on your roof. Sealing those air leaks first, then adding insulation, keeps that heat in the house.
Eco-Friendly
Choice
Reducing your energy consumption is one of the most impactful things you can do for the environment. Spray foam lasts the life of the home without settling or losing R-value.

Insulation for Chaska Homes
Chaska has a housing problem you will not find in most suburbs, and it is sitting right downtown. The cream-colored brick those old homes and storefronts are built from came out of the clay in the river valley, and a solid masonry wall has no stud cavity in it. Nothing to blow into. People call us after a blown-in company came out, looked at it, and left. The way that wall gets insulated is from the inside, furring it out and foaming against the masonry so you get an air seal and a thermal break in one step, and you do it carefully, because you are changing how that wall dries. Then there is Jonathan, which is its own era entirely. Those homes went up starting in the late 1960s as a planned community, before the energy crisis rewrote how anybody thought about an envelope. Thin wall insulation, original attic depth, and a lot of vaulted and split ceilings that make the attic hard to get into.
Common Insulation Problems in Chaska Homes
Downtown Chaska's older brick homes have no wall cavity at all, so anything sold as a standard wall retrofit is off the table. Jonathan and the 1970s stock have the opposite issue: framed walls with almost nothing in them and attics that were blown once and never touched again. Across the whole city, homes built before the late nineties have bare rim joists, because nobody insulated a rim joist until then. Add the river valley humidity swings and you get a house that is drafty in January and clammy in August.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our Chaska brick house has no wall cavity. Can it even be insulated?
Yes, just not the way a framed wall gets done. With solid masonry there is nothing behind the brick to fill, so the work happens on the interior: furring strips off the wall, closed-cell foam against the masonry, then finish over it. That gets you an air seal and a break in the conduction path at the same time. The caution is that you are changing how that wall handles moisture, so it matters that somebody looks at the exterior condition, the mortar, and the grading before any foam goes on. Travis does that walk himself.
We live in Jonathan. What does a home from that era usually need?
Air sealing before anything else. Jonathan homes went up before the codes tightened, so what is up in the attic is usually original depth plus whatever somebody added later, and the attic floor was never sealed at the top plates. The other thing we run into constantly out there is the ceiling geometry. Vaults, split levels, and short attic runs mean access is the hard part, and access is what actually shows up on a bid. A 3/12 pitch attic where you are crawling to reach the top plate is a completely different job from one you can stand up in.
What happens if spray foam is installed incorrectly?
It is expensive to fix, which is the honest answer nobody leads with. Foam sprayed too thick in a single pass can trap heat as it cures and pull away from the framing. Sprayed on a substrate that is too cold and it does not bond. Sprayed over a moisture issue and now that moisture is sealed in behind a surface you cannot see. Insulation is invisible once it is done, and most homeowners are never going to climb up there and check. That is exactly why it matters who is holding the gun.
Can you clean out the old insulation before putting new insulation in?
Yes, and on a lot of older Chaska attics that is the right call. What we find up there is often three different types of insulation layered on top of each other over fifty years, the bottom layer is packed flat, it is dirty, and sometimes it is moldy or has been lived in by something. Blowing new material over that just buries the problem. We do the removal, air seal the deck properly once we can actually see it, then spray foam the trouble spots and blow back in. A lot of times that is all one day.
What should I ask an insulation contractor before I hire them?
Ask who is doing the estimate and whether that same person is doing the work. A lot of companies now are owned by a larger outfit running twenty or thirty branches, and the person who bid your job hands it off to a crew who never saw it. Things get lost in there. Ask what they found in your attic specifically, not what they recommend generally. Ask whether they will do a blower door test before and after so you have a number, not a feeling. Then read the reviews and call the one who picks up the phone.
