Why Ramsey Homeowners Choose Spray Foam

Minnesota winters demand insulation that actually performs

Stop Winter
Drafts

Spray foam expands to fill every crack and gap, an airtight seal fiberglass batts cannot match. No more cold spots or uneven heating in your Ramsey home.

Lower Energy
Bills

ENERGY STAR estimates about 15% savings on heating and cooling from air sealing plus insulation. Many Ramsey projects also qualify for utility rebates.

Increase Home Value

Buyers notice a home that stays comfortable year-round. Insulation pays you back twice: lower bills while you live there, stronger appeal when you sell.

Reduce Exterior Noise

Open-cell spray foam is an exceptional sound absorber. It fills the wall cavity completely, so rooms near busy roads, flight paths, and neighbors feel noticeably quieter.

Help Stop Ice Dams

Ice dams start when heat leaks into the attic and melts the snow on your roof. Sealing those air leaks first, then adding insulation, keeps that heat in the house.

Eco-Friendly
Choice

Reducing your energy consumption is one of the most impactful things you can do for the environment. Spray foam lasts the life of the home without settling or losing R-value.

Insulation for Ramsey Homes

Ramsey was a township until 1974, and the housing still shows it. Big lots, long driveways, and a lot of split-entries and walkout ramblers that went up through the late seventies and eighties on sandy ground. The split-level is the one we get called about. Half the lower level sits below grade against a foundation wall that was poured, framed, and stuffed with a batt that has been touching cold concrete ever since, and the other half is a floor hanging over a tuck-under garage. So the family room downstairs runs ten degrees behind the rest of the house and everybody blames the furnace. The other thing about Ramsey is what it sits on. This is Anoka sand plain, and sand drains well but it also lets frost drive deep and hold, which puts frozen ground hard against an uninsulated rim joist for months at a stretch. That cold conducts, and you feel it in your feet before you see it on the gas bill.

Common Insulation Problems in Ramsey Homes

Split-entry and walkout homes in Ramsey lose heat at the band joist and the below-grade foundation wall, where old fiberglass sits against cold concrete and holds moisture instead of stopping it. Floors over a tuck-under garage are usually under-insulated and never air sealed. Attics on the seventies and eighties stock were blown once to the standard of the day and are running well short now. Deep frost on sandy soil keeps the pressure on that rim joist all winter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the lower level of my Ramsey split-level always cold?

Two reasons, and they stack. The below-grade portion of that wall is usually framed with fiberglass batts pressed against bare concrete, and fiberglass does nothing to stop air or moisture, so you get a cold wall that can also get damp behind the drywall. Above that, the rim joist band is often completely bare. Closed-cell foam on the rim and the foundation wall stops the air movement and the conduction in one application. Most people notice the difference in that room within a day, before the insulation has anything to do with their bill.

Our townhome near the Northstar station is fairly new. Would it need anything?

Maybe not much, and Travis will tell you that rather than sell you a project. Newer construction in the COR area was built to a tighter standard than the older stock out on the sand plain. What we do find in newer attached homes is narrow and specific: a party wall that transmits sound, a bonus space over an unheated garage bay, or an attic hatch that was never sealed. Those are small jobs. If the house is genuinely fine, a Home Energy Squad visit through CenterPoint or Xcel is worth more than anything we would sell you. There is a fee, and it is free if your household is income-qualified.

What does old asbestos or vermiculite attic insulation look like?

Vermiculite looks like small grey-brown pebbles with a shiny, layered, almost accordion texture, poured loose between the joists rather than blown in fluffy. It shows up in homes insulated before the early 1980s. If you think that is what you have, do not disturb it, do not vacuum it, and do not let anybody blow new material over it. It needs testing first, and if it tests positive it needs an abatement contractor, not an insulation contractor. Travis will tell you straight if that is what he is looking at.

How much does attic insulation cost in Ramsey?

It comes down to three things: how much is up there now, whether there is a vapor barrier, and how hard the attic is to physically work in. An 8/12 pitch where a person can stand up is a different price than a 3/12 where getting down to the top plate is most of the labor. That is why Travis looks at it himself instead of quoting off square footage over the phone. He can give you current ranges in a couple minutes at (612) 730-9417, then a real bid after he sees it.

Do you handle the CenterPoint and Xcel rebate paperwork?

We do, and that is the part people leave on the table. We are a trades partner with both, we run a blower door test before the job and another one after, and those numbers are what document the improvement. All you have to give us is whose name is on the utility bill, the address the check should go to, and your customer number. We send it in. Depending on the program and the city, a rebate can cover a real share of the estimate, sometimes half. When a city puts rebate money out, it gets eaten up pretty quick, so it is worth asking early.
