Why Mendota Heights Homeowners Choose Spray Foam
Minnesota winters demand insulation that actually performs
Stop Winter
Drafts
Spray foam expands to fill every crack and gap, an airtight seal fiberglass batts cannot match. No more cold spots or uneven heating in your Mendota Heights home.
Lower Energy
Bills
ENERGY STAR estimates about 15% savings on heating and cooling from air sealing plus insulation. Many Mendota Heights projects also qualify for utility rebates.
Increase Home Value
Buyers notice a home that stays comfortable year-round. Insulation pays you back twice: lower bills while you live there, stronger appeal when you sell.
Reduce Exterior Noise
Open-cell spray foam is an exceptional sound absorber. It fills the wall cavity completely, so rooms near busy roads, flight paths, and neighbors feel noticeably quieter.
Help Stop Ice Dams
Ice dams start when heat leaks into the attic and melts the snow on your roof. Sealing those air leaks first, then adding insulation, keeps that heat in the house.
Eco-Friendly
Choice
Reducing your energy consumption is one of the most impactful things you can do for the environment. Spray foam lasts the life of the home without settling or losing R-value.

Insulation for Mendota Heights Homes
Mendota Heights was dairy and truck-farm township until after the war, and it filled in one lot at a time instead of one tract at a time. Farmers sold off single lots and acreage, the population went from 2,107 in 1950 to 5,028 by 1960, and the building never stopped for long after that. Census figures put the median home here at 1983, and the busiest decade, the 1980s, built only about 21 percent of what stands today. When I walk into a house here, that matters more than anything else. Postwar houses along the St. Paul line, 1970s custom homes on the wooded lots around Ivy Falls, and builds from the last couple of years can all sit within a few minutes of each other. So the house next door tells me very little about yours. I go up in the attic, check the top plates and the bath fan boots, see what pitch I am working with, and bid the house you actually own.
Common Insulation Problems in Mendota Heights Homes
Because so much of this city went up one house at a time, the problems do not sort neatly by neighborhood. In the older homes near the north end, it is usually attic insulation that has been packing down for decades and a rim joist with nothing on it, since rim joists did not get foamed until the late nineties. That bare rim joist sits right at ground level, and in January you feel it as a cold floor above it. In the larger homes from the 1970s and 80s, the trouble is more often access. A roofline with vaults and dormers can split one attic into several small ones, some roomy, some so tight it takes real work just to reach the top plate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t you price my Mendota Heights house off the one next door?
Because here the house next door can be a completely different build. Mendota Heights was built out a lot at a time, so two neighbors can be decades apart, with different roofs and different insulation sitting in the attic. A lot of times one attic is an 8/12 pitch I can walk around in, and the next one over is a 3/12 where I am on my stomach at the eaves trying to reach the top plate. That access is what moves the price. I come out, look at it myself, and the number you get is for your house. What I bid and what we install are the same job.
What is the best insulation for the attic in an older Mendota Heights home?
It depends on what is already up there, and I would be guessing if I answered before looking. Up there I am looking for a vapor barrier, for air coming through the ceiling, and at what shape the old insulation is in. A lot of older attics have two or three different products layered up there, and some of it is moldy. In that case we usually pull it all out, spray foam the top plates and the leaky spots, then blow insulation back in over it and get the venting right. If the attic is in decent shape, blown-in by itself can do the job. Done correctly, either way gives you a good result.
How does spray foam compare with blown-in insulation?
Both work when they are put in right, and neither works when they are not. Spray foam costs well above blown-in, and that comes down to the equipment and what the material costs from the wholesaler. What you get for the difference is a seal. Foam fills the cracks at the rim joist and the top plates, so cold air stops there, and so does the warmth that mice feel and dig toward when they look for a way in. Blown-in is the better value for covering a big open attic floor once the leaks underneath are sealed. Plenty of the jobs we do use both in the same house.
Does a higher R-value mean my house will feel warmer?
Not on its own. A big R-value number slows heat moving through the insulation, but it does nothing about air sneaking around it, and that moving air carries your heat straight out with it. I go into homes with R-60 piled in the attic that still feel drafty, because there is no vapor barrier or the attic was never vented right. Spray foam does both at once: it fills the gap the air was using and insulates it in the same pass. Once a house is sealed properly, people tend to call me the next day and tell me they cannot believe the furnace is not running all the time anymore.
What happens at a residential insulation estimate?
I come out myself, for free, and look at the whole house, starting with the room that bothers you. I check the attic, the rim joist, whether there is a vapor barrier, any sign of pests, and how hard each space is to get into. Before a rebate job starts, we set up a blower door and pressurize the house to see how leaky it is, then do it again when we finish so you can see what changed. If you are on CenterPoint or Xcel, I will tell you whether you look eligible for a rebate, and we file that paperwork. City rebate money tends to get eaten up fast, so it pays to ask early.
