Why Oakdale Homeowners Choose Spray Foam
Minnesota winters demand insulation that actually performs
Stop Winter
Drafts
Spray foam expands to fill every crack and gap, an airtight seal fiberglass batts cannot match. No more cold spots or uneven heating in your Oakdale home.
Lower Energy
Bills
ENERGY STAR estimates about 15% savings on heating and cooling from air sealing plus insulation. Many Oakdale projects also qualify for utility rebates.
Increase Home Value
Buyers notice a home that stays comfortable year-round. Insulation pays you back twice: lower bills while you live there, stronger appeal when you sell.
Reduce Exterior Noise
Open-cell spray foam is an exceptional sound absorber. It fills the wall cavity completely, so rooms near busy roads, flight paths, and neighbors feel noticeably quieter.
Help Stop Ice Dams
Ice dams start when heat leaks into the attic and melts the snow on your roof. Sealing those air leaks first, then adding insulation, keeps that heat in the house.
Eco-Friendly
Choice
Reducing your energy consumption is one of the most impactful things you can do for the environment. Spray foam lasts the life of the home without settling or losing R-value.

Insulation for Oakdale Homes
Oakdale went from township to city in 1974, right in the middle of its own build-out, and most of the housing here is from that stretch: ramblers, split-levels, and two-stories put up between about 1965 and 1985. Houses from that window are a specific kind of problem, because they straddle the energy crisis. The oldest of them were framed and insulated before anybody cared, then somebody came along in the eighties and blew a layer over the attic without touching the air sealing underneath, and maybe a third owner added something else in the nineties. Open one of those attics and there are three different types of insulation stacked up. The bottom layer is packed flat and filthy and has been doing nothing for thirty years. Piling a fourth layer on top of that is money spent to bury a problem. The right sequence is to take it out, actually see the deck, seal it, and then insulate it once, properly.
Common Insulation Problems in Oakdale Homes
The 1965 to 1985 stock that makes up most of Oakdale runs 2×4 exterior walls with thin batts and attics that have been topped off rather than redone. Top plates, can lights, and bath fan boots were never sealed on any of them. Split-levels here have the same cold lower level and cold floor over the tuck-under garage you see across the east metro. And with I-694 and I-94 crossing the city, plenty of homes closer to those corridors take road noise through the roof and the walls year round.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our attic has three different kinds of insulation stacked up. What do you do with that?
Take it out. That bottom layer is usually old, matted flat, dirty, and in some houses moldy or full of droppings, and none of it is performing. More importantly, you cannot air seal a deck you cannot see. So we do a full removal, get down to the joists and the top plates, seal every penetration, spray foam the trouble spots, then blow the attic back in to proper depth with clean material. A removal, foam, and blow-back is often all one day. If access is tight or there is a lot up there, three.
Does insulation help with the traffic noise from 694?
It helps, though set your expectations by what is actually letting the noise in. Sound follows the same paths air does, so sealing the envelope cuts more of it than people expect. Customers tell us after an attic job that they cannot hear the outside the way they used to and the house is quiet. That said, if your windows are the weak point, insulation will not fix your windows. The honest version is that air sealing and insulation is a real improvement on road noise and not a soundproof room.
Does spray foam insulation need to be covered up?
Yes, in most applications. Foam is combustible and code requires a thermal barrier over it, which in a finished space is your drywall. In an attic, crawl space, or unfinished area that stays exposed, that usually means an approved ignition barrier coating over the foam. It gets skipped on cheap installs, and you will not know unless you climb up and look. Ask any contractor bidding your job how they are handling the barrier, and ask before the number, not after.
Our house was built in 1978. Wasn't everything insulated well by then?
Better than 1958, not close to today. A 1978 Oakdale house is typically 2×4 walls with R-11 or R-13 batts and an attic blown to a depth that looked fine at the time. What almost never happened in that era is air sealing, because the thinking was all about R-value. So you get a house that has insulation everywhere and still moves air freely from the basement to the attic. On top of that, nobody insulated a rim joist until the late nineties, so yours is very likely bare.
Do you handle the utility rebate paperwork?
We do. We are a trades partner with CenterPoint and Xcel, and part of the job is a blower door test before we start and another after we finish, which pressurizes the house and measures how much air is actually moving through it. Those two numbers document what changed. You give us the name on the bill, the address for the check, and your account number, and we file it. Oakdale also helps pay for Home Energy Squad visits through Xcel and CenterPoint, so the visit costs less here, and it is free if your household is income-qualified. You can book one whether or not you hire anybody, and most people do not know that.
